TEAM BUILDING WORKSHOPS
2015 Workshop

Drs. Walter Siqueira (Western University) and Colin Dawes (University of Manitoba) will host a workshop for researchers to collaborate on establishing a Canadian/North American Saliva Bank. The primary aim of the Saliva Bank will be to develop a database of samples and clinical information that will serve as a key resource for future exploration of oral and systemic diseases and biomarkers. 

The two-day workshop will include a range of presentations and group discussions that will address topics such as:
  • “Standard Operating Procedures” for collecting and storing saliva
  • Ethics related to saliva collection and storage, and obtaining informed consent
  • Establishing medical and dental clinical forms and questionnaires
  • Research on Saliva & Biomarkers
  • Creating an online presence for a Saliva Bank
The workshop will be held on June 1-2, 2015, at Western University (London, ON). 



2014 Workshop

Drs. Elham Emami (U of Montreal) and Linda Booij (Queens U) are co-leading a workshop to exchange knowledge and develop a multi/interdisciplinary partnership focused on the interaction of multidimensional risk factors in caries disparity.

Workshop participants will include trainees as well as junior and senior researchers from a variety of fields including: 
  • oral health and caries research
  • clinical psychology
  • nutrition
  • social work
  • health literacy
  • health policy and health services research
  • community-based and Aboriginal research
The 2-day, team-building workshop will be held September 19th and 20th, 2014 in Montreal. For more information, refer to the Agenda and Panel Questions.



2013 Workshops

Drs. Mary McNally (Dalhousie U) and Robert Schroth (U of Manitoba) will co-organize a workshop creating a new collaborative team of Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal researchers, clinicians, health promoters and relevant health service and policy stakeholders together with representatives of Aboriginal communities. Trainees and junior and senior researchers will be invited from Dalhousie University and the Universities of Montreal, British Columbia, Manitoba and Sydney, Australia. One of the goals of the workshop will be to identify research priorities and create linkages with Aboriginal communities for the purpose of research planning.



Dr. Gilles Lavigne from the University of Montreal will lead a workshop to establish a Canadian Chronic OroFacial Pain Team. Workshop participants will include trainees as well as junior and senior researchers from a variety of fields including oral medicine, prosthodontics, sleep medicine, brain imaging and neuroscience, pharmacology, nutrition, psychology and Complementary and Alternative Medicine. Participants will be invited from the Universities of Toronto, Montreal, British Columbia, Laval and Alberta and McGill University, as well as the US National Institute on Drug Abuse and the Canadian Pain Society.
