2016 Workshops

Building a Team to Evaluate the Effects of Canadian Dental School Community Outreach Programs  
(Summary Report; Program)

In November 2016, Dr. Paul Allison (McGill University) organized a two-day symposium to initiate a research program on the effects of dental school community outreach/service programs. Forty-five (45) participants - including researchers, graduate students, community representatives, and support staff - attended the symposium. 

Supporting Multidisciplinary Inquiry into the OraL Heath of Elders (SMILE) (Summary Report, Oral Health Think Tank - 2016 Summary Report)

In March 2016, Drs. Minn Yoon (U of Alberta) and Michael MacEntee (U of British Columbia), in collaboration with the Schlegel-UW Research Institute for Aging, organized a 2-day workshop to develop research priority areas and agenda that addresses a gap in our ability to translate oral health care best practices for frail people, especially those in long-term care. Thirty (30) participants - including front-line care staff, oral health professionals, international oral health care experts, researchers, and trainees - attended the workshop.

 
2015 Workshop

North American Saliva Bank Workshop (Summary Report)

In June 2015, Drs. Walter Siqueira (Western U) and Colin Dawes (U of Manitoba) organized a 2-day workshop to discuss the creation of a North American Saliva Bank (NASB). The aim of the NASB is to facilitate the progress of salivary research, and the integration of the salivary research field with the other areas related to oral and systemic health.

2014 Workshops

Modelling the Interaction of Multidimensional Risk Factors in Caries Disparity (Summary Report; Complete Report)

In September 2014, Drs. Elham Emami (U of Montreal) and Linda Booij (Queens U and St-Justine Hospital), along with postdoctoral fellow Dr. Svetlana Tikhonova, organized a 2-day workshop to exchange knowledge and to develop a multi/interdisciplinary partnership, focused on the interaction of multidimensional risk factors in caries disparity.

Pathway to Oral Health Equity for First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Canadians: Knowledge Exchange Workshop (Summary Report; Complete Proceedings)

In February 2014, Drs. Mary McNally (Dalhousie U) and Robert Schroth (U of Manitoba) co-organized a workshop to bring representatives of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit organizations together with clinicians and health promoters, health service program managers and decision-makers, and academics, to network and share current evidence focused on improving oral health for Canada's First Nations, Métis and Inuit people. 


2013 Workshops

Canadian Orofacial Pain Team (Summary Report)

In November 2013, Dr. Gilles Lavigne (U of Montreal) led a workshop of multidisciplinary clinical, research, and knowledge transfer experts from Canada and internationally. This workshop was the first in a series of activities designed to establish a Canadian Chronic Orofacial Pain Team to address the causes and management of chronic orofacial pain.
