
Dr. Leigha Rock, recipient of the New Frontiers Seed Grant Award in 2019, conducted a study with the aim of examining community variations and functional implications of the microbiome in low-grade oral epithelial dysplasia (OED). The research characterized the microbiome in low-grade OED, identifying Streptococcus as the most abundant genus, followed by Haemophilus, Rothia, and Neisseria. Larger cohort studies are imperative to further explore the potential of the microbiome as a risk biomarker in OED.
