Pain is taught at many levels at McGill University, undergraduate, graduate, professional and continuing education, and across many faculties, departments and schools. For a comprehensive list of these programs, visit the Alan Edwards Centre for Research on Pain’s (AECRP) website: https://www.mcgill.ca/painresearch/education

The Alan Edwards Pain Management Unit (AEPMU) at the Montreal General Hospital oversees clinical training at many levels (medical students, residents, continuing education). Their programs and opportunities can be found on their website: https://www.mcgill.ca/paincentre/training

Of particular interest might be the Graduate Certificate In Chronic Pain Management. This program is a collaborative effort of the AECRP and McGill’s School of Physical and Occupational Therapy. It is aimed at healthcare practitioners (of all types, not just PTs & OTs) with chronic pain patients in their clientele who feel that their practical knowledge about pain is limited and want to learn more. This is an online “pajama course” that they can do in their own time. It will provide the basis to better understand chronic pain, physiologically and therapeutically, and thus improve their ability to better manage their patients.
